Assignment 3 - Ethical and Sustainable Implementation of Emerging Technology

To meet the Australian Federal Government’s national target of constructing 1.2 million new homes by mid-2029, an additional 130,000 tradespeople are required (Jackson, 2025). This initiative proposes leveraging the CareerChat AI technology to identify secondary school students with an aptitude and interest in the building and construction industries, equipping them with tailored pathways to address the critical shortage of skilled tradespeople. By directing students early, as supported by the Building Institute of NSW, this approach aims to increase the trades workforce, reduce project costs, and boost revenue generation.
Drawing lessons from the Robodebt inquest, which highlighted inefficiencies in automated systems and considering the high energy demands of AI this program prioritises ethical and sustainable AI implementation. Key considerations include ensuring transparency, fairness, and accountability in AI driven decision-making to mitigate ethical dilemmas.
