One of the questions I am often asked while completing my MBA is whether the concepts learned at university can genuinely be applied in the workplace.

My answer is simple: absolutely, but only if you are willing to move beyond the theory.

Throughout my MBA journey, I have been exposed to concepts ranging from emerging technologies and business law through to customer experience management. While the academic theories and frameworks are valuable, the greatest benefit has come from applying these lessons to real business challenges.

In my role as Operations Manager at Budget Motels, I am regularly involved in strategic planning, stakeholder management, business improvement initiatives, and member engagement. This has provided an ideal environment to test and apply many of the concepts explored throughout my studies.

One of the most valuable lessons I have learned is that successful organisations do not simply focus on products or services. They focus on people. Whether it is employees, customers, franchise members, or stakeholders, understanding their needs and reducing unnecessary friction often leads to better outcomes for everyone involved.

The MBA has not simply provided me with knowledge. It has provided me with a different way of thinking, analysing problems, and identifying opportunities for improvement.
